Know why you are taking it
The Multi-Specialty Recruitment Assessment is a computer-based assessment used in selection for several specialties. For CST 2027, the published process uses MSRA for shortlisting and includes it in the final selection score. Check the current CST guidance for weighting and the national MSRA guidance for examination arrangements.
Prepare from the official scope
Read the assessment guidance and available official practice material before choosing a study plan. Do not treat MSRA as another MRCS paper: prepare for its stated scope and question formats. Use timed practice to identify whether errors arise from knowledge, interpretation or prioritisation.
Balance preparation with other deadlines
Protect short, repeatable revision sessions while continuing portfolio preparation. Keep a list of difficult concepts and revisit them after a gap. Confirm booking instructions, identification and adjustment arrangements promptly when invited. A strong assessment performance does not replace eligibility evidence, and an invitation to sit should not be treated as confirmation that the whole application has been approved.
